Liverpool look to Spanish flair to replace Gerrard
Liverpool have reportedly identified two Spanish starlets to replace Steven Gerrard when the 32-year-old decides to hang up his boots. The Metro reports.
Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing Francisco Isco Alcaron to the club after impressing for Malaga in their Champions League debut against Zenit St Petersburg, and has really come to the fore since Santi Cazorla left the club to join Arsenal.
Isco’s main attributes concern his dribbling and creativity on the ball and Liverpool may feel he is the flair player they need to ensure the club challenges at the top-level again.
Malaga’s unstable financial state may mean that a deal could be relatively straight-forward to push through, but the Reds could struggle to secure his services if a bidding war takes place, as the club cannot compete with Europe’s big-spenders.
Meanwhile, Ander Herrera is a player who recently established himself in the Athletic Bilbao side who marched to the Europa League final last season.
He made 54 appearances for the club, but only managed to score four goals, although his speed and movement on the ball will ensure Rodgers keeps a close eye on the player.
Both players have stated they are happy at their respective clubs for the moment, but the speculation looks set to continue.
