Aguero ruled out of Sunderland clash

Roberto Mancini has confirmed star striker Sergio Aguero will miss the Premier League clash with Sunderland with a “stupid” injury.

Aguero was missing from the City team that drew at Stoke on Saturday with a foot problem.

Mancini has refused to say precisely what happened, however, it seems the dilemma was not of an orthodox nature.

“It is a stupid injury,” mentioned Mancini.

“It was not his fault but he can not play with this injury for one particular day, ten days or two weeks. I do not know.”

Mancini was repeatedly asked what Aguero had carried out but declined to elaborate each time.

“I prefer not to say,” he said.

“But he could not play against Stoke and can not play tomorrow [Saturday]. I hope he can recover for Arsenal up coming weekend.”

Players have suffered various bizarre foot injuries down the many years, most typically by dropping issues on themselves.

Former City defender Jerome Boateng as soon as had a drinks trolley run into him by an airline stewardess that condemned him to an extended time period on the sidelines.

The news is a key blow for City though as Carlos Tevez is still not deemed fit sufficient to begin, Edin Dzeko has been inconsistent and Mario Balotelli remains an enigmatic presence in the Blues squad, which continued this week with his interjection at an Inter Milan press conference following the dismissal of Claudio Ranieri.

“I feel he was there as a journalist,” said Mancini, with a smile.

The City boss also confirmed skipper Vincent Kompany is probably to return following a four-match absence with a calf dilemma.

However, fellow central defender Joleon Lescott will yet again miss out with a hip injury.”
