LPGA Tour star Brittany Lincicome has missed the cut after shooting a two-over 74 in the first round of a Hooters Tour event in Orlando, Florida.

Playing her first event on the men’s Hooters Tour’s Winter Series, the 25-year-old, thee-time LPGA Tour winner finished in a tie for 72nd in a field of 113, 10 strokes back from US male compatriot Brad Klapprott, the halfway leader.

Lincicome, who ranks as one of the longest hitters on the LPGA Tour, posted one birdie, three bogeys and 14 pars on the Deer Island Golf Club course.

Lincicome tied with England’s Zane Scotland, who in 1999 competed as a 16-year-old amateur in the Open Championship, having won a national newspaper competition to find Britain’s answer to Tiger Woods two years mealier.

Scotland disappeared from tournament leaderboard after a car accident and wrist injury sidelined him until he returned to the Open Championship last year for the time in 11 years.

The Hooters is a development men’s golf tour that stages tournaments in the eastern United States and prior to teeing off on Monday, Lincicome said she was hoping to use the event to help prepare her for a fast start when the LPGA Tour get underway later this month..

In 2003 Swedish legend Annika Sorenstam became the first woman to play in a PGA Tour event since Babe Zaharias, who qualified for the 1945 Los Angeles Open, when she competed in the Colonial Tournament.

In her only venture into men’s golf, Sorenstam shot a five-over par, tying for 96th out of the 111 and also missed the cut.
